Ole Fredrik Norbye

Ole Fredrik Norbye

Ole Fredrik Norbye grew up in northern Norway and began his piano career at the age of six. After working as an organist in his home village for several years, he moved at the age of 16 and began music studies and completed piano training at the Grieg Academy's jazz program for both jazz and classical piano. The studies included study stays in New York with teachers such as Jason Moran, Connie Crothers and Vijay Iyer, Marilyn Crispell and Frank Kimbrough. Norbye is involved in several band projects in addition to his career as a pianist and composer. The solopiano records draw inspiration from both classical music and modern jazz improvisation. The album “Serene Echoes” (NXN1010) explores a more meditative form of improvisation. Ole Fredrik Norbye performs with a number of Norwegian and international artists, but also solo concerts under his own name.
